On Mondays during term time in our private woodland in Chislet, With Nature facilitates Forest School sessions for home-educated and flexi-school children. These sessions are also open to children who may be experiencing EBSA or other reasons for not currently engaging with school-based learning (discussions with their current school placement may be required).
There are currently two sessions available to book on Mondays: a group for children aged 11 and under, and a group for children aged 12 and over.
Upon arrival, we walk together as a group to Basecamp. At the start of each session, we recap any necessary safety information before the children and young people are given the freedom to explore our Basecamp. These sessions are child-centred and based on each participant's interests, preferences and individual needs. This means that although there will be opportunities to learn new skills and try new experiences, there is no pressure to participate in any activity.
There is always a fully qualified and experienced Forest School Leader facilitating the sessions, observing and ensuring everyone's safety.
Children and young people have the opportunity to learn knots, tree, plant and animal identification, tool use, sustainability, cooking, responsible fire lighting and safety, nature crafts, den building, relaxing in a hammock, mindfulness, and so much more.
This isn't just Forest School. Spending time outdoors can boost our mood, reduce feelings of stress and anger, improve our mental health and wellbeing, support physical health, and help us feel more connected to nature. By attending Forest School sessions regularly, children, young people and their families can experience these benefits and build on them over time.
An adult is required to attend these sessions, although there is no expectation for them to be actively involved. You are welcome to sit, relax and chat with other parents. As much as these sessions are for your children, they can also provide many wellbeing benefits for you too!
